Powerful beyond measure, Women have never been powerless. They have been formidable in ways the world too often ignores; Healers, Leaders, Innovators, Nurturers, and changemakers. In medicine alone, women doctors hold life and death, care and cure, science and empathy. They don\u2019t need anyone to \u201cempower\u201d them, they need the world to acknowledge the power they already have.<\/span><\/p>\n

Breaking Barriers, Not Constructing Them<\/b><\/h2>\n

Women are strong but face obstacles still. Within health care, female doctors face gender bias, fewer leadership pathways, pay disparities, and a steeper incline to gain the respect that their male counterparts earn in spades. But these barriers don\u2019t exist because women are powerless, they exist because systems can\u2019t see it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Empowerment Is Not a Gift, It\u2019s a Right\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n

Stop talking about empowerment as if it\u2019s something we bestow on women. Women don\u2019t need to be \u201cgiven\u201d power, they need access to opportunities, respect and safety. We\u2019re talking about equal pay for equal work, for the same work in medicine; meritocracy in leadership opportunities; and workplaces free of harassment and bias.<\/span><\/p>\n

Empowering Women By Empowering Men<\/b><\/h3>\n

True gender equity requires that men become part of the solution. When men understand and challenge societal norms that limit women, they create space for equality. Male doctors who advocate for their female colleagues set an example, showing that empowering women isn\u2019t about shifting power but sharing it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Healthcare Needs More Women In leadership<\/b><\/h3>\n

Women bring perspectives to medicine that are transformative to patient care. Research finds female doctors tend to have better patient outcomes. But they\u2019re still underrepresented in leadership. By elevating women into positions where they are able to make choices such as these, we create systems that are more compassionate, innovative and effective.<\/span><\/p>\n
